The group, called Tragic Sacrifice of Christ, stands behind Rozelle House. The granite for the centrepiece, The Deposition, came from Kirkmabreck Quarry near Creetown. The rest came from the old harbour wall in Ayr.

Ronald Rae was born in Ayr in 1946 and works only with hand tools. George Younger, then Secretary of State for Scotland, unveiled the sculptures in 1979.
