Birthplace of Robert Burns
Burns Cottage
The clay and thatch cottage where Robert Burns was born on 25 January 1759.

William Burnes, the poet's father, built this four-roomed cottage in 1757. Robert Burns was born here on 25 January 1759 and spent his first years here.
After the family left, the cottage was a rented house and then an alehouse. The poet John Keats visited in 1818. The National Trust for Scotland now runs it as part of the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.
Entry is included in a Robert Burns Birthplace Museum ticket. On 22 October 2026 the cottage was open 11.00 to 15.30, last entry 15.00.
