Traffic-free path
Alloway to Burton path and NCN 7
Two traffic-free miles on the old railway, linked since 2023 by an underpass under Dunure Road, then three miles on NCN 7 to the town centre.
Hidden gem

The Alloway to Burton Path runs for two traffic-free miles from Maybole Road along the dismantled Maidens and Dunure Light Railway. In June 2023 a 1.4 million pound project opened a new underpass on Dunure Road, through a former rail tunnel, so people walking and cycling no longer cross the busy road.
The same project created the Sense-Ayr-Ee sensory garden, with a wetland, a boardwalk and planting chosen for touch, scent and sound. From the underpass, National Cycle Network Route 7 gives a three-mile ride to Ayr town centre.
