Burns Monument and Gardens
Thomas Hamilton's Grecian monument of 1823 above the Brig o' Doon, paid for by over 700 subscribers.

Admirers began planning a memorial soon after Burns died. It was finished in 1823 with money from more than 700 subscribers. Thomas Hamilton, who later designed Ayr Town Hall, drew it in a Grecian style.
The monument is 70 feet high and stands in landscaped gardens. A statue house holds figures of Souter Johnnie from Tam o' Shanter and Nance Tinnock. The National Trust for Scotland calls it the place where Burns tourism began.
