Events square and community building
The Cutty-Sark Centre and riverside square
Ayr's newest square: an open events space beside the River Ayr at the foot of the High Street, with the Cutty-Sark Centre community building, opened in March 2023.

South Ayrshire Council spent £5 million on the space. It knocked down 8 to 10 High Street, cleared the site, rebuilt the old quay wall along the river, landscaped the square and built a new community building on it. The council opened it on 3 March 2023 and uses it for events through the year, such as pop-up markets.
A pupil at Ayr Grammar Primary named the building in a competition. The Cutty-Sark is the short shirt worn by the witch Nannie in Burns's Tam o' Shanter.
