Working harbour
Ayr Harbour
The harbour that made Ayr the port of Ayrshire, still working on its north side.

Ayr was the main seaport of Ayrshire from the Middle Ages. A small lighthouse went up on the river in 1712 and a quay in 1713. By 1855 between 60,000 and 70,000 tonnes of coal a year left here for Ireland.
The north side of the harbour is still a commercial port. The granite for some of Ronald Rae's sculptures in Rozelle Park came from the old harbour wall.
