Statue and square
Burns Statue Square
George A. Lawson's bronze Robert Burns, on a granite plinth with four relief scenes, outside the station.

The statue is by the sculptor George A. Lawson, with James A. Morris as architect. Historic Environment Scotland dates it to 1892. Burns stands on a stepped Aberdeen granite plinth with bronze panels of four scenes on its sides.
Ornate railings and lamps given by Sir William Arrol once surrounded it. They were removed during the Second World War for the war effort. On the same square, the drill hall of 1901 built for the Royal Scots Fusiliers volunteers is now shops.
South Ayrshire Council has agreed designs for a £16 million redesign of the square, with more greenery, easier access and loading bays for businesses. Subject to planning, work is expected to start in early 2027, paid for by the UK Government's Local Regeneration Fund.
